It’s an ongoing trend that doesn’t show any sign of slowing down – people from across the country are moving out of the city and towards the suburbs.
There’s been a lot of speculation as to why this is happening, and several reasons have stood out amongst the rest. In this blog, we’ll look at the key aspects of suburb-living that are driving people out of big cities like Manchester, and into popular towns like Altrincham.
Let’s take a look!
Be closer to your family
It’s clearer now more than ever that millennials have taken over the city in an attempt to get on the career ladder and try out that fast-paced lifestyle. However, once they’ve achieved their career goals, more and more of them are wanting to move out of the city to be closer to their families.
A Zillow study found that more than 50% of millennial homeowners live in the suburbs in 2017, showing a shift in millennial behaviours.
When you think about it, most people move out of their home at 18 and begin working full time or join higher education, so after a decade of doing it on your own, it’s nice to move closer to your family and have that little bit of extra support.
Become a part of a community
In cities, it’s pretty much a dog-eat-dog world. A sense of community is hard to find – you don’t have your local shop where the owners know your name, or group events or fundraisers where the entire town joins in.
People have a fundamental need to enjoy an affinity with the people and places around them, and in a suburb like Altrincham you’ll get just that. With initiatives like the Altrincham Market and the opportunity to enjoy communal living in an apartment like Altair, there’s always a chance to really be a part of something special.
Oh, the popularity of green spaces. You can get a lot of things in a city, but a good park isn’t one of them. The University of Exeter organised a study of 10,000 U.K. citizens and found that if you live within a 2.5 mile radius of a green space, your overall wellbeing increased proportionately.
According to the study: “Living in a greener area was associated with mental health gains about 35 percent as significant as those one gets from being married. It was 12 percent as beneficial to mental health as being employed.”
There are countless parks beside Altair in Altrincham, and we additionally have a roof garden where you can take in nature without even leaving the building!
And that’s it!
